Redeemer is made up of a wonderful, diverse and international group of people. Everyone has a very important part to play and we love the amazing group that serves and leads diligently.
Who we are
Henk & Mirjam Withaar
Worship Deacons
Henk and Mirjam are married and live just across the Dutch border in Belgium. They moved from the province of Brabant in the Netherlands and became part of Redeemer. Henk loves the forest and everything outside. He works for the government in a role that preserves nature. Mirjam is very creative and has her own business in felting and hosts workshops regularly. They head up the amazing worship team of Redeemer and are very determined and passionate about seeing Redeemer grow in praise and thanksgiving. Mirjam loves to sing and Henk can play almost every instrument, but prefers drums.
Tertius Opperman
Sound & Visual
Tertius is from South Africa and leads our Sound & Visual team. This team is responsible for ensuring our Sunday services look and sound good, both in Studio Radium and on our weekly live stream. This technical team works with the worship team to coordinate sound, lights, and the on-screen displays.
Aude, Flavia, Gien and Diana
Catering
These leaders enhance fellowship by providing a nice cup of coffee or tea each Sunday. Aude is originally from France, Diana from Equador, Flavia from Brazil, and Gien from Holland. They co-lead an international team of volunteers and can be found passionately facilitating snacks and more during Sundays and special church events.
Denys Lysyi
Hospitality
Denys was born in Ukraine and spent a big part of his life in Kraków, Poland, and now lives in Maastricht. Denys works with nature and landscapes, which he truly enjoys. In his free time, Denys loves hiking, spending time with people, and having meaningful conversations over coffee. Reading books, Bible study, and building community are some of his main interests. He is excited to serve as the leader of the Hospitality Team and to help create a warm, welcoming place where everyone feels at home.
Catalina and Hannah
Kids Work (4-12)
Catalina and Hannah head up the kids’ work team running our BLOOM program. Hannah is from the Netherlands, is married to Dennis, and is responsible for the program for younger children ages 4-6. Catalina comes from Moldova, and she is responsible for the program for older children, ages 7-12. Together with the kids’ work team, they create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for our littlest members to learn about Jesus.
Africa, Josh, Yanis & Lara
Youth Work (12-17)
Our RISE program for teens is lead by Africa & Josh from the U.S. and Yanis & Lara from Germany. They have a big heart for the younger generation and are very excited about leading them closer to Jesus.
Boaz, Fayah, Annelies & Kwesi
Students & Twenties
These "fabulous 4" gather every Monday evening, together with a big group of students, twenties and young professionals for a time of worship, Bible study, food and social activities. Regularly they organise fun events and gatherings, so do not hesitate getting in touch with them if you would like to come around too.
Rafa, Flavia, Fernanda & Adrien
30s/Young Professionals
Our 30s/Young Professionals group brings together people who are in their thirties or starting out in their careers. The group meets once a month to grow in faith and navigate this unique season of life together.
Henk & Eunee Kersten
Apostolic Relations and Teaching
Often this wonderful couple are called "the grandparents of Redeemer", however they are not that old yet. Henk and Eunee moved to Maastricht to help planting this church. Henk is working for New Ground, and together Henk and Eunee serve churches in Europe, You will see Henk preaching in Redeemer regularly as he is very passionate about God's Word. Both love spending time with their family, walking in nature and eating good food.

Maarten de Lange
Elder
Maarten is married to Lise and together they have three children. In 2018, they started Redeemer and now Maarten is leading the team of elders and working full time for Redeemer. You can find them hosting barbecue parties regularly and they love drinking a good cup of coffee in the lovely city of Maastricht. Lise is passionate about baking and Maarten loves to go out mountain biking in the country side.
Babak Ghafary
Elder
Babak is originally from Iran and married to Natalie who is from the US. They moved from the Redeemer church in the Hague to Limburg to become a part of Redeemer Maastricht. Babak works as a Lead Engineer at ASML and has three children with Natalie. They love dancing Jazz together and you can have a very good laugh with them. Both have a great heart for people and prayer. They also serve the church by pastoral matters with the other Elders and overseeing our life groups in Redeemer.
Dominik Hahne
Deacon
Dominik is originally from Germany, and is married to Xinwei who is from China. Dominik works in Human Resources and Xinwei as a technical consultant. They have a shared heart for caring for people and seeing God's church grow in faith, knowledge, and number of people. Together they lead the Alpha Course for new believers. Besides church, you can find Dominik in the garden growing vegetables and fruits or playing music, and Xinwei likes reading books and playing music.
