Maarten de Lange, who leads our team of elders and works fulltime for Redeemer Maastricht, will be stepping away for a well-deserved sabbatical from June 1 until August 11.
The sabbatical allows him to refresh his calling, prevent burnout, and regain focus as a leader. The idea of a sabbatical is rooted in Biblical principles (see Genesis 2:2–3, Exodus 20:8–11, Leviticus 25:4), and provides leaders with the opportunity to temporarily step away from their responsibilities and rediscover their identity in God, independent of their work.
During this time, some of Maarten's responsibilities will temporarily be managed by other elders and developing leaders in our church. This strengthens the team, fosters collaboration, and helps leaders grow in their roles.
We wish Maarten a very restful sabbatical and look forward to his return in August!
But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of sabbath rest, a sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards (Leviticus 25:4).
