The wonderful Christmas season is upon us! This year, we have chosen Isaiah 9:6 as the focus of the sermons leading up to Christmas.
In Isaiah 9 we read beautiful, comforting names and amazing words spoken over Jesus’ life, as the prophet was having a revelation of the birth of Jesus.
A Child is born, and a Son is given, telling us of Jesus and in His coming to us, to be fully human and fully God. He came from heaven as a free gift of God’s grace for the salvation of all of mankind. This Christmas we celebrate the wonder of Him who has ‘the government upon His shoulders’, the rule of the universe.
Over the weeks leading up to Christmas, we will look to Him who is wonderful and will be called ‘Wonderful Counsellor’, as He will reveal Father’s will to us.
His names are so very comforting as they tell us how we can travel safely through this world.
As He is a Mighty God, our great Warrior overcoming sin and defeating death.
As He is a fatherly Ruler, knowing that in Him and by Him all things have been created (Colossians 1:16).
As He is our Prince of Peace, leading us to find our way back to the heart of the Father.
May it be true for all of us this Christmas that: “Unto you a child is born, and unto you a Son is given”. May His rule bring peace and security in you, keeping you and your loved ones in His Presence.
Warm regards,
Henk Kersten
